❤️🔥 Heated Rivalry Fans Are Watching the PWHL!❤️🔥
Heated Rivalry star Ksenia Daniela Kharlamova, known for playing Svetlana, was at the PWHL game at TD Garden!
I was getting annoyed when the NHL was trying to use Heated Rivalry for marketing because the NHL is literally the villain of Heated Rivalry. But seeing the PWHL use Heated Rivalry for marketing just feels so perfect to me.
The PWHL has real-life game changers such as Marie-Philip Poulin, Laura Stacey, and Hilary Knight. Not only have these players changed the game by making hockey more inclusive, they have boosted the popularity of the women’s game through their amazing performances on the Olympic stage.
After I posted this video saying Heated Rivalry fans should watch the PWHL, I got so many comments from Heated Rivalry fans saying that they are already watching the PWHL!

The Heated Rivalry > Olympics > PWHL pipeline seems to be a common path for many new fans. Heated Rivalry was not just a flash in the pan; I genuinely think it has significantly boosted the popularity of the PWHL. PWHL hockey fans are so welcoming, and it makes me so happy to see so many new fans enjoying women’s hockey.

🎮 Why am I Building a PWHL Cyberdeck? 👀
I saw a CJ Jackson bobblehead in the thrift store and the rest is history.

P.C. Jackson V1 running my PWHL Quiz

P.C. Jackson V2 decorated with sea glass!
A cyberdeck is a DIY personal computer.
I have been really obsessed with DIY subculture. It was one of my inspirations behind making a zine and even starting this newsletter! So when I saw my friend and fellow women’s sports content creator Maddy WNBAData making her own cyberdeck, I got so excited to make my own!
I started a video series to document my cyberdeck journey!
Should I write a bonus newsletter post about my cyberdeck journey?
“I need the zinesters to start making cyberdecks. I need the women’s sports nerds to start making homelabs. I need the Heated Rivalry fans to start watching PWHL. I need the women’s sports content creators to start making newsletters. Is anybody else picking up what I’m putting down?”

🌠 PWHL Weekly Recap
📺 This week’s results

Tue, Apr 7: Montreal defeats Seattle 4-1; Desbiens Helped Fix the Glass Crack👏
📍 Laval
Watch my game recap / highlights!
Victoire goalie Ann-Renée Desbiens helped fix a glass crack 👏. Montreal looks unstoppable even without Poulin, as Laura Stacey scored on her own bobblehead night and reached 60 career PWHL points. Lina Ljungblom was named first star of the game with 2 assists. Theresa Schafzahl scored for Torrent.
Tue, Apr 7: Boston defeats Vancouver 5-1; Jessie Eldridge Shines!
📍 Edmonton
One of the big criticisms of Boston Fleet has been: “OK, they have amazing goaltending, but do they have enough offense?”. Boston is putting those fears to bed with 5 goals, and their trade for Jessie Eldridge is paying off, as she got 2 goals. Aerin Frankel’s shutout streak of 236 minutes was ended by Sophie Jaques.

Wed, Apr 8: Seattle defeats Ottawa 5-3; Torrent avoids playoff elimination! 🙃
📍 Ottawa
Watch my game recap / highlights!
Torrent spoiled the party, I mean, there was literally a lesbian wedding reception happening at the Ottawa Charge game😭. Torrent needed a regulation win to avoid being eliminated from playoff contention. They got their first ever regulation win on the road, led by Danielle Serdachny with 2 goals! This was kind of the most Torrent thing ever though, as a lot of Torrent fans were actually rooting for Torrent to lose so that they can start accumulating gold plan points to get a high draft pick.

Sat, Apr 11: Minnesota defeats New York 4-1; Micah Zandee-Hart scores and gets ejected
📍 St Paul
The Frost and the Sirens traded goals in the first period with Sirens captain Micah Zandee-Hart getting her first goal of the season. But the momentum shifted in the third period as Abby Hustler and Taylor Heise scored for the Frost. Micah Zandee-Hart received a 5 minute major penalty and was ejected from the game for an illegal check to the head.

Sat, Apr 11: Ottawa shuts out Toronto 2-0; Gwyn Philips 42 Save Shutout 🧱
📍 Toronto
Literally how did Charge win this game 😂
watch my game reaction!
Gwyn Philips. That’s all. 42-save shutout. The most ever in a PWHL shutout. The shot counts in this game were literally 42 for the Sceptres, to 18 for the Charge. Brianne Jenner scored the game-winner for the Charge.

Sat, Apr 11: Montreal shuts out Boston 1-0 in front of 17K fans at TD Garden 😳
📍 Boston
Not only was this the second-highest attended US women’s hockey game of all time after the Madison Square Garden game last week, but both of those games were bangers!
watch my game reaction!
This felt like watching a playoff game. This was a goalie duel between Aerin Frankel and Ann-Renée Desbiens. With this shutout, Desbiens has now tied Aerin Frankel with 7 shutouts on the season. Lina Ljungblom scored the game-winning goal for the Victoire.

The top four teams make the playoffs. Read my explanations of standings and draft order (gold plan).
🧠 Playoff Scenarios
Victoire and Fleet are battling for the top playoff spot, which grants them the ability to choose their own opponent in the semifinal round.
Charge and Sceptres are battling for the fourth and final playoff spot, but Sirens can still be in the mix if they beat Toronto and Ottawa this week.
Torrent and the Goldeneyes are on the verge of elimination.
👑 Tops and Bottoms of the Week
Top 🔝: Montreal Victoire. With two more regulation wins, including one against second-place Fleet in front of a sold-out TD Garden, the Victoire are building a solid lead in first place.
Bottom 💔: Vancouver Goldeneyes. For a second there I thought the Goldeneyes might be able to challenge for a playoff spot, but they have lost all three games they have played in April, with the nail in the coffin being a 5-1 loss to the Fleet this week.
🗓️ This week’s schedule

🧑🏫 PWHL Playoff Format Explained
Watch my video explanation.
PWHL Playoff Format Explained:
Top 4 teams make the playoffs
5-game semifinal series, 5 game championship series
Higher seed gets home ice advantage for games 1,2, and 5
First seed gets to pick their opponent between the third and fourth seed 🤯
Why I think this format is awesome:
Choose Your Opponent gives the top teams something to fight for towards the end of the season
This adds drama!!! Ottawa fans were literally chanting “You picked us” after they won against Montreal during the playoffs last year
There’s so much parity in the PWHL that the higher seed has never actually beaten the lower seed 👀
