Game Recaps

Toronto Sceptres: 0, Montreal Victoire: 3

Toronto Sceptres fans are arguably the only team having a worse time than Seattle Torrent fans. Montreal Victoire remains undefeated at Place Bell.

Sceptres have lost 7 of their last 8 games

Seattle Torrent: 2, Ottawa Charge: 4

This was a rough one for Torrent fans and a dream come true for Charge fans. It was tied 2-2 with 2 minutes left, but Torrent defender Megan Carter took a cross-checking penalty with 1 minute left. Charge scored on the resulting power play, and then scored AGAIN 13 seconds later to make the final score 4-2.

Some good things that happened: Hilary Knight notched her 50th career point, Jessie Eldridge keeps rolling with 8 points in her last 5 games. The Seattle Torrent coaching staff won’t be coaching at the Olympics, so I am excited to see what adjustments can be made to systems and if we will even see a trade for the Torrent.

I watched the game at Pitch the Baby bar in Seattle and met up with some folks from Discord. If you want to come hang at future meet-ups, make sure to join discord.

New York Sirens: 3, Boston Fleet: 4 (8 round shootout!)

Is it really a rivalry if one team always wins? The Boston Fleet have now defeated the New York Sirens in their last 9 games. But this is still one of my favorite matchups because it is always CRAZY.

This one went to the 8th round of shootouts. Alina MΓΌller is a cheat code.

Kalty is GOATED. With 11 goals in her last 10 games, she is now the league leader in goals.

Vancouver Goldeneyes: 1, Minnesota Frost: 4

Ever since completing a 6-player trade with Ottawa and getting Sarah Nurse back from injury, the Vancouver Goldeneyes were rolling, coming off of wins against Toronto and Seattle. However, Minnesota Frost has been one of the best teams this year, so this was the real test to see if this Vancouver Goldeneyes were legit.

After this game, I think the Goldeneyes still have some work to do, but the good news is that they actually outshot Minnesota 32-22!

I am Once Again asking the PWHL to Take a Stand on Trans Inclusion

The replies on this tweet are so scary lol…

When this situation was first developing as she was drafted, I remember thinking, oh it’s just one player. That doesn’t represent the Minnesota Frost organization or the entire league. She issued an β€œapology” which seemed to indicate that this was not what the PWHL stood for.

However, she is increasingly becoming one of the most recognizable faces in the league. People know her name (even if they do not like her), she is currently tied for league leader in points, and she is on the US Olympic team.

In the past, I gave her some benefit of the doubt, thinking maybe she changed her opinions, but in the recent Athletic article, she says she is concerned about β€œfairness” when it comes to trans athletes women’s sports. She has recently partnered with the Fierce Athlete organization on instagram posts.

Why is it OK for one of the faces of the PWHL to openly support anti-trans organizations? If she supported a racist organization, it would clearly not be OK. Why is she constantly given a pass when it comes to being anti-trans? Why is transphobia so normalized?

This is not acceptable. At this point, it’s not about a single player being transphobic. I take bigger issue with how the PWHL has handled the situation. The PWHL continues to profit from trans fans, and even employs an openly trans player, but will not protect their rights.

I am once again asking the PWHL to take a stand on trans inclusion. You all know that I love the PWHL. But part of loving something is critiquing it and demanding that it be better.
