Psychology:
Canada needs to prove that they aren’t the underdogs after getting swept by the US in Rivalry Series
USA needs to prove that they are the Real Deal because they won silver in 2022 and have only ever won Olympic gold twice

This game will decide who places first in group A. Whoever wins will have an easier path to the gold medal game
Keys to the game
USA:
use their speed
don’t take penalties (Canada has scored on over 50% of their power plays so far)
defense (their defense hasn’t been tested much, they allowed Switzerland some risky opportunities)
CAN:
contain US offense, will need great goaltending
find ways to score without Poulin
Based on what I’ve seen from these two teams in their other games so far, I still think this is the USA’s game to lose

Canada got out to an early 4-0 lead in the first period. But, after Czechia switched their goaltender and Poulin got injured, momentum shifted to Czechia.
I think Czechia outplayed Canada in the third period. If they meet again in knockout stage I think this game could be very interesting.
I really hope Poulin is OK. 💔

USA offense continues to shine, but USA defense allowed Switzerland quite a few dangerous opportunities. Goaltender Gwyneth Philips made important saves in her Olympic debut, and goaltender Ava McNaughton made her Olympic debut as well.

This is the year of Julia Gosling.
After a relatively quiet rookie PWHL year with the Toronto Sceptres, Julia Gosling had instant impact on the Seattle Torrent. Julia Gosling scored the Torrent’s first two goals ever, currently has 12 points in 14 games played in the PWHL, and earned her spot on Canada’s Olympic team.
I expected Julia Gosling to be good in the Olympics, but I don’t even think I expected her to be THIS good. She now has 3 power play goals across 2 games in her Olympic debut.
