I was overconfident going into this game. I was probably more nervous for Canada than for the US. I thought that the US was going to win for sure.

Canada came out so fast, and I was happy that they were playing amazing, but I really started to get nervous for the US. When Canada scored on the US short handed, I started freaking out.

As time ticked down on the clock, I really felt like it was over. I was crashing out. I had such high hopes for this team, they were so outstanding throughout the rest of the tournament, I couldn’t bear to watch them get shut out in the gold medal game.

The game-tying goal with 2 minutes remaining brought me to tears.

Not only did Hilary Knight break the American record for career Olympic goals in her final Olympic game, but the goal came off of a deflection of Laila Edwards’ shot.

After that, I knew they couldn’t lose. USA looked phenomenal in the 3v3 overtime. Megan Keller ended it with a sick move.

USA wins 2-1 in OT.

I have been SO shady to Canada this entire year, but honestly, it was kind of warranted? Team Canada did not look good in Rivalry Series, they continued to look questionable in their group stage game against the US and throughout the Olympic tournament.

It’s never because I wanted Canada to be bad. Honestly, I wanted them to be good, because I knew the Team Canada that we were seeing wasn’t the amazing level of play that we expect of them. So, to see them come out flying in this game was a huge relief.

This game really showcased how awesome women’s hockey can be, and I hope it will attract new viewers to the PWHL.

The last time Sweden was on an Olympic podium was 2006. The last time Switzerland was on an Olympic podium was 2014.

At age 15, Alina Müller scored the game-winning goal in the 2014 Bronze meal game. Now in her 4th Olympics, Alina Müller scored the game-winning goal in the Bronze medal game yet again with just one minute left in OT.

ABSOLUTE CINEMA. Switzerland defeats Sweden 2-1 in OT.

Team Switzerland has been so gritty the entire tournament. I’m so happy for them.

I was prepared to be so sad that this was Hilary Knight’s last Olympics, but I don’t feel sad at all. This felt like the perfect ending to her story.

Hilary Knight scored the game tying goal in the dying moments, assisted by Laila Edwards, a player who she inspired as a kid. From the years of visibility and excellence, to fighting for fair treatment for women from USA hockey in 2017, to coming up clutch in the biggest moments, Hilary Knight is leaving the sport better than she found it. And her story’s not over yet.
